3 lis 2023 · The SS port stands for SuperSpeed USB, which refers to the USB 3.0 and 3.1 generations of the USB standard. Introduced in 2008, SuperSpeed USB bumped up the maximum bandwidth from USB 2.0‘s 480Mbps to a blistering 5Gbps. That‘s nearly a 10x increase in speed!

The USB 3.0 standard was released in 2010, and since then many manufacturers have started producing products that support this standard. This includes laptops, computers, external hard drives, printers, scanners, cameras, etc.
In this guide, we explain what the SS stands for. SS refers to SuperSpeed, a new transfer rate that can transfer data at up to 5 Gbit/s (625 MB/s), which is ten times faster than USB 2.0. Impressive. Any USB device can benefit from faster transfer speeds using the SuperSpeed ports.

If you see the SS prefix in front of the normal USB logo, you have correctly identified the USB port 3.0. Note: If you have a laptop / New pc, the manufacturer may have removed the SS prefix from the icon.
