The speech act theory was introduced by Oxford philosopher J.L. Austin in "How to Do Things With Words" and further developed by American philosopher John Searle.
In this position paper, we have made a claim for L2 pragmatic research to further integrate speech acts into interaction studies and discourse analysis, by proposing a radically minimal typology of speech acts through which we interpret speech acts interactionally.
Speech acts represent a key concept in the field of pragmatics which can be broadly defined as language use in context taking into account the speaker’s and the addressee’s verbal and non-verbal contributions to the negotiation of meaning in interaction.
