25 wrz 2024 · Romex comes in two, three or four-conductor cables, plus the ground wire. These cables are labeled using their AWG followed by the number of conductors. For example, Romex with 14 AWG and two conductors is referred to as “14/2”.
1 maj 2019 · When you talk about 14-3 or 12-3, the Romex cable actually has 4 wires. The 14 or 13 is the wire size. #12 is a heavier gauge, can handle up to 20 amps and usually has a yellow sheath.
Basically by supply lines I'm talking about the Romex carrying the hot wire to the switch. In my exact setup I have 12/2 wire ran to a junction box from the breaker box. I will splice Romex into the junction box to carry that main supply from the breaker to four other rooms.
So when your needing a three conductor cable to wire up a basic 2-way switch, you will need a 14/2 w/ground cable. What that number means is 14 gauge (wire size), 2 conductor which also includes a bare ground wire. The 2 conductor only refers to the insulated wires and not the ground.
Wall switch #1 is wired to light C with 12-2 romex, which consists of 3 wires: a black hot, a white neutral, and a ground (shown in green). In order to connect it to the two new lights and the new box, we’ll need to change it from a regular switch to a three-way. Here’s the diagram we worked from.
