Roman Writing. Roman people wrote in Latin from an alphabet consisting of 21 letters - (ABCDEFGHIKLMNOPQRSTVX); Y and Z being later additions. J, U and W were not used. V stood for both u and v so it is not uncommon to see words such as SERWS (a slave).
