30 sty 2015 · Due to the indication “Comodo. Scherzando. Ohne Hast” (“at ease; playfully; without haste”) appearing above its opening measures, most musicians understand the third movement of Mahler’s Symphony no. 3 as a large-scale scherzo.
Symphony No. 3 in F Major, Op. 90. Composed 1883. Brahms composed his third symphony in the space of only four months, which is especially noteworthy because it had been six years since the completion of his second symphony. The symphony in F major is the shortest of Brahms’ four symphonies.
What follows is, except for the finale, a series of shorter character pieces, beginning with the Blumenstück, the first music Mahler composed for this symphony. This is a delicately sentimental minuet, with access, and its contrasting middle section, to slightly sinister sources of energy.

More casually it is described as being in D minor. The first movement certainly begins in this key but, by its end, has defined the relative F major as the tonic. The finale concludes in D major, the tonic major, which is not unusual for minor key, multi-movement works.
