The work is scored for 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets in B ♭ (I mov.) and A (II & III mov.), 2 bassoons, 4 horns in F, 2 trumpets in B ♭, 3 trombones (2 tenor, bass), tuba, timpani, bass drum, cymbals, solo piano, and strings. It is written in three-movement concerto form. Moderato: C minor
Composed: 1900–01. Length: c. 33 minutes. Orchestration: 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 4 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones, tuba, timpani, percussion (bass drum and cymbals), strings, and solo piano. First Los Angeles Philharmonic performance: December 8, 1927, Georg Schnéevoigt conducting, with Benno Moiseiwitsch, soloist.
6 lut 2018 · Unlike the Beethoven, Rachmaninov does not begin with the main chord of the piece, (C minor). Instead, he opens with an F minor chord that builds in volume, descending towards the home key in bar nine.
