"Import level failed" error occurs when trying to open a MCWORLD file with a Minecraft World in it that you make through minecraft. Steps to reproduce: Create a minecraft world. Export the world to your computer. Attempt to download by double-clicking on it or using the import world feature in the Minecraft Bedrock game. Observed results:

Clicking "Open" from file explorer, or using the import button having launched MC normally both give the same result: almost instantaneously after "Level import started", it results in "Level import failed" with no further information. This is quite confusing.

I found the exported world (with the 2D Minecraft grass block icon). This file is 88 MB. So of course, I had recovered this file and now have it. When I double-click on the export, it opens Minecraft and attempts to import.
if its failing to import you can try to extract your world folder directly to the games world folder. you can rename the .mcworld file to .zip and extract it to the folder. On iPhone/iPad, you will need the files app to do this, for android devices i think there is a built in file app too.
