Introduction to cloud computing, covering its basics and core concepts in a presentation format.
17 mar 2023 · This chapter introduces the fundamentals of Cloud Computing. Besides describing the origin and definition, this chapter also presents service and delivery models of this computing model. We also introduce virtualization and containerization, which are core technologies of Cloud Computing. Download chapter PDF.
Chapter 1 made it clear that cloud computing is a computing model that provides convenient and on-demand as well as rapid access to a shared pool of resources provided by cloud service providers over the internet.
The model consists of three main layers (see Figure 1-1), laid out in a top-down fashion: global essential characteristics that apply to all clouds, the service models by which cloud services are delivered, and how the services are instantiated in the form of deployment models.
•Cloud computing has enabled an explosion in large-scale computing services and applications. •Clouds provide services at three main levels: IaaS, PaaS, SaaS. •New programming models enable easier development of large-scale applications. •Hadoop is the open-source enabling technology for Big Data
Cloud computing is a paradigm for large-scale distributed computing that makes use of existing technologies such as virtualization, service-orientation, and grid computing. It offers a different way to acquire and manage IT resources on a large scale. A simple example of cloud computing is webmail.
