Pixelmon does not use the "random encounter" method (e.g., tall grass, caves) for encountering Pokémon. Instead, they spawn naturally in Overworld, and a player can engage them in battle. By default, normal Minecraft mobs are disabled and do not spawn when Pixelmon is installed, although they can be enabled by editing Pixelmon's config file.

Pixelmon is currently available for Minecraft versions 1.20.2 (alpha), 1.16.5 (stable), 1.12.2, 1.10.2, 1.8.9, and 1.7.10, with versions earlier than 1.16.5 being considered legacy. The last 3 versions listed are not officially distributed. Minecraft Forge is required in order to use Pixelmon.
The minimum Forge version for this update is 48.1.0 and is required for a Pixelmon client to run. Worlds from 1.16.5 may not work with newer versions of Minecraft. Consider backups before updating.
