19 lut 2024 · Like the other elements of music, the tempo of a piece can have a big impact on how it sounds. A fast tempo may convey a sense of urgency, while a slow tempo might create a sense of calm. Changes in tempo can also add interest and variety to a piece of music.
3.1 Time values As well as a pitch name, each note has a rhythmic value, called a time value, note value or duration. Those most commonly found in present-day usage are shown in Example 13.
In the fraction-like figure we see at the beginning of a piece of music, known as the time signature, the beat grouping represents the numerator and tells us the number of note values needed to complete a measure. The denominator indicates what that note value is (whole note, quarter note, half note, etc.).
