For example, a critic might agree not to publish a review before the day of release or before a big announcement at E3, Essen or Gamescom. Review embargoes are used for two reasons.

  3. They allow reviewers to focus on making a good review rather than rushing out one as soon as possible. This is particularly true for very large games. Take the new Xenoblade game - review copies have been sent out, a month before release, and the review embargo is 2 weeks before release.
