A patulous esophagus is a frequent but poorly understood incidental finding on high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) of the thorax in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) (Fig. 1) [1, 2]. Previous studies have established a relationship between a dilated esophagus and esophageal dysmotility in patients with SSc [2, 3].
