The name of the fire-retardant treatment. The species of wood treated.
To treat timber, it must first be kiln-dried to reduce moisture. It will then be loaded into a specialist machine called a vacuum cylinder; this will further reduce moisture within the wood before flooding the preservative into the chamber, using pressure to ensure a high level of penetration.
There are three main types of flame-retardant treatments: impregnation with inorganic salt solutions or leach-resistant chemicals, chemicals inherently incorporated into the product at point of manufacture and surface coatings.
Zeroflame Fire Retardant Treatment is a water based, clear solution that soaks into wood to leave the appearance of the timber virtually unchanged. Applied by brush, roller, spray, or immersion it achieves Euroclass B s2 d0 (replaces UK Classes ‘0’ and ‘1’ BS 476 Part 6/7*) on solid timbers.
Fire-retardant treatments help the wood to quickly char when exposed to flame, reducing the smoke and flame that occurs in a fire. Treated wood use applications include interior framing, exposed exterior wood for above ground or ground contact uses, fresh-water and salt-water exposures, and fire retardants for wall, roof and floor assemblies.
27 kwi 2018 · Flame TechTM Fire Retardant wood products comply with AWPA UC-1 and UCFA use category system. Flame TechTM treatment process meets the AWPA T1 standard and Flame TechTM chemical has been analyzed by Timber Products Inspection (TPI) to determine that the chemical components meet AWPA P-50 protocol.
Fire-retardant-treated wood (FRTW) does not require water or electricity to protect the wood and therefore provides passive protection. When properly installed according to code requirements, FRTW never needs additional inspection or service and is free of these ongoing maintenance costs.
