These terms refer to the number of strands that are twisted together to make the yarn. In other words, ply is a measurement of how many strands of yarn are used to make one strand of yarn.
h\Heavy worsted weight yarn is commonly referred to as 12 ply in Australia. This weight of yarn is thicker than traditional worsted weight (10 ply) and is suitable for projects that require a chunkier texture or a quicker knit.
DK is the double-knitting yarn type (8 ply) that falls into the 3-Light worsted yarn weight category. It’s one of the most used yarns to crochet numerous projects like baby items, sweaters, jumpers, and blankets!
