This article is a list of standard proofreader's marks used to indicate and correct problems in a text. Marks come in two varieties, abbreviations and abstract symbols. These are usually handwritten on the paper containing the text.

These are included in the in-text citation. If one page number is being referred to, use the abbreviation p. for page. If there are multiple pages use pp. to represent pages. Example (Ezzy, 2002, p. 30) According to Gibbs (2009, pp. 34-35)
The following list shows some of the most common proofreading marks and symbols used by proofreaders and editors – and explains their meaning (note that some proofreaders will use different symbols than those shown here; if you see a symbol on a document and you’re not sure what it means, ask your proofreader).
31 lip 2018 · wc (word choice / collocation) If you see this mark on your paper, it could mean one of two things: this word doesn't mean what you think it does; or. this word doesn't "go with" the words around it. In practice, these two problems are often one and the same.
short for agreement. This refers to subject-verb agreement and means that the verb form as written does not align with the corresponding subject or pronoun. For example: Only one of the students were happy. (The correct sentence would be: Only one of the students was happy. "One "is a singular third person subject.) Awk: short for awkward wording.
