27 cze 2023 · What is supination? Supination is the natural movement of the foot as it rolls out during the gait cycle. Technically, it is the movement of the subtalar joint (between the talus and calcaneus) into inversion, plantar flexion, and adduction. Inversion occurs when the sole of the foot turns inwards.
The aetiology of foot pain is often multifactorial. Foot pain may be caused by musculoskeletal pathologies, as well as vascular and Neurological Disorders, [3] but the three major foot problems in older adults are pain, neuropathy, and deformities. [4] .
This may occur in patients attempting to lengthen an anatomically shortened limb because of proximal pathologies (eg, femur fracture, valgus, or varus deformity of the knee) by supination and plantarflexion at the foot and ankle. These cases may show excessive wear of the entire lateral outsole.
Supination, or underpronation, is a natural movement in walking and running that causes pain in the foot, ankle, and leg. It occurs when the foot rolls outward excessively, disrupting shock absorption. Common symptoms include outer heel pain, arch pain, ankle instability, and forefoot calluses.
