The West Virginia Capitol Complex is an 18-acre (7.3 ha) historic district located along Kanawha Blvd., E., in Charleston, West Virginia. It dates from 1925 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
Where do I enter the State Capitol building (Building 1)? Visitors may enter Building 1 at either of the Directed Public Access Points, located midway through the East and West wings. Please see below for information about the process for entering the building.
The Capitol is open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday and 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday and Holidays. The Dispensary is located on the main level near the Rotunda. History of the Capitol. Before the capitol was in its current location in Charleston, several West Virginia cities had served as the capitol location for the State of West Virginia. The capitol was first located in Wheeling from 1863-1870 in the Linsly Institute Building.
