You should read "From Hell" first, and get that Alan Moore is a singular talent, the sort that comes along once in a generation. Then you should read "on writing comics" by Alan Moore to understand WHY he is a genius. Then you should read Watchmen, then you should watch the movie again, then you should throw before watchmen in the trash.
Short answer: Yes ! Long answer: Read only the Watchmen and maybe Doomsday Clock ! The Before Watchmen comics are iffy to watchmen comics, great reads but not part of the watchmen story ! Spin-offs and different writers, great ones too.
