His Birth Was Blessed by G‑d. Shortly before Benjamin ’s birth, G‑d appeared to Jacob and blessed him to “ be fruitful and multiply … and kings shall come forth from your loins.” Since Benjamin was the only one born after this blessing, it referred to him. Indeed, kings would issue from Benjamin (more on that below).2

27 gru 2023 · Benjamin was born in Canaan as Jacob was traveling back to his homeland after living with his uncle Laban for many years (Genesis 35:16-18). Rachel went through a very difficult labor and died giving birth to Benjamin. Before she passed away, Rachel named her son Ben-Oni, meaning “son of my sorrow.”
According to classical rabbinical sources, Benjamin was only born after Rachel had fasted for a long time, as a religious devotion with the hope of a new child as a reward. By then Jacob had become over 100 years old. [7]
Benjamin was the son of Jacob and Rachel and father of the tribe of Benjamin, one of the twelve tribes of Israel. Originally named Ben-oni, or "son of my affliction" by his mother as she lay dying in labor, his name was later changed to Benjamin, meaning "son of my right hand" (Genesis 48:14).
Benjamin’s birth and Rachel’s death. 16 They left Bethel, and when they were still some distance from Ephrath, Rachel went into hard labor. 17 During her difficult labor, the midwife said to her, “Don’t be afraid. You have another son.” 18 As her life faded away, just before she died, she named him Ben-oni,[a] but his father named him Benjamin.[b]
