Subtests used to derive the FSIQ are bolded. Secondary subtests are in parentheses. The scaled scores in the Reference Group Scaled Score column are based on the performance of examinees ages 20:0-34:11 (i.e., the reference group). These core subtests help to home in on the test taker's intelligence quotient. WAIS' Four Index Scores. The WAIS-IV was unveiled in 2008. The new WAIS includes four index scores: verbal comprehension index, working memory index, perceptual reasoning index, and the processing speed index.
In this subtest individuals are asked to record associations between different symbols and numbers within time limits. This subtest reflects: psychomotor speed ability to absorb new material visual motor speed.

Subtests of the WAIS-IV The WAIS-IV consists of 15 subtests divided into core and supplemental subtests. These subtests are designed to assess various cognitive abilities and contribute to calculating the four index scores and the Full Scale IQ (FSIQ) score.
Consisting of a primary battery of 10 subtests that are used to appraise intellect and five cognitive domains — verbal comprehension, visual spatial, fluid reasoning, working memory, and processing speed — the WAIS is the most reliable and comprehensive intelligence measure available.
The WAIS-IV Letter-Number Sequencing and Digit Span subtests are Supplemental measures in the Neuropsychological Impairment Domain Wilde et al. (2010). It is likely that a number of subtests will be recommended for use across domains that are important to TBI – i.e., working memory and information processing speed. Reviewers Skye McDonald
