27 gru 2010 · With a Hornady 230gr FMJ i use 5.5gr of w231, cci primer, 1.255", Cycles well, good accuracy, medium power load. With Powerbond plated 230gr i use 5.3gr of w231, cci primer, 1.245". Softer load, cycles well and gives good accuracy, great range load for practice.

Over fifteen years with 231 in 45 colt. 200 gr RNFP, with the load at just below the handbook minimum. Measurable crimp. No primer movement, so a stout enough recipe to keep the primers seated.
2 mar 2013 · The load data that come with the dies states the starting powder weight for W-231 is 4.2 gr. using 230 gr. bullets. However, my Speer reloading manual (volume 13) states the powder range for the same bullet is 5.6 - 6.2.
21 mar 2006 · I really couldn't see any difference on the pins between a 225 at 900 feet and a 250 at 850fps. If I were to pursue loads of 250 grains in the .45 acp in the future, I would use a slower powder like HS-6 or maybe even Blue Dot. W-231 is a bit fast for max results and speed with the real heavy stuff.
13 mar 2015 · You might try a top endish .40 S&W load from Hodgdon's reloading data website. You'll never get true 10mm performance from W231 powder because its too fast, but for practice or competition it should work fine.
