29 gru 2022 · Does anyone have a recommended 38 Spl 148 gr DEWC “Full Wadcutter” load using W231? Using my Lyman manual, 3.5 grs W231 may be a good duplicate? The load will be used in a +P rated S&W Model 442.
19 kwi 2008 · 38 special loads using W231. I've loaded a 158 g LSWC bullet on 3.1 g of W231 for a light target load, but it seems unusually dirty (maybe incomplete powder burning), and 3.7 g W231 which subjectively feels like the recoil of factory loads.

15 paź 2011 · I've been working up a load using Win 231 and a Hornady 148gr hollow-based wadcutter. Hornady manual shows 2.2 grains min up to 3.5 grains max, but that's still a tiny bit of powder compared to the space in the case. 3.0-3.4 grains seems to be a popular load range for this combination.
6 cze 2013 · The W-W 14th Ed. reloading manual provides the following data for W-231 in 38 Special: 158 gr. Lead SWC 4.0 gr. W-231 = 745 fps = 12600 psi 4.5 gr. W-231 = 830 fps = 15800 psi 4.7 gr. W-231 = 860 fps = 17100 psi (38Sp +P load)
Conversely, I have had excellent results with W231 in lighter jacketed 38 SPL bullets such as 110 gr and 140 gr SJHP or SJSP. My 2nd edition of Lee's Modern Reloading shows the maximum W231 load for 38 SPL LSWC to be 4.5 grains producing a pressure of 15,800 psi (not CUP), and a velocity of 830 fps. Speer 13 shows 4.3 grains max.
