25 maj 2014 · Today, the 1992 GTI 16v stands as the best expression of the original water-cooled VW ethos. Simple, tasteful, competent, desirable. The paint has faded on most of them, but their well-earned reputation retains its luster.
11 paź 2019 · Give the GTi eight more valves – the GTi 16V was born. With 139bhp and 124lb ft, bigger front brakes and stiffer suspension, the Mk2 GTi was given a new and exciting lease of life. This was the GTi in its ultimate guise, the one to have and the one to beat.
The Golf GTI 16V was long seen as the one to go for – and in terms of outright horsepower it’s certainly the market leader – but don’t discount the eight-valver out of hand; it has more low-down torque and as such will likely be easier to drive on a day-to-day basis.
