As a non-profit shelter, we depend on volunteers from our community to help us enrich our animals and give them the best care possible. Requirements: All volunteers must be 18 or older to volunteer. Check out our youth programs for volunteer opportunities for individuals under 18 years of age.
Shelter Volunteers: HSWM appreciates the support our group volunteers can provide at the animal shelter. Potential volunteer tasks can include: raking dog runs, tidying up the dog park, pulling weeds along the dog walking trail, sorting pet food, sorting cat items, organizing various areas, and other needed support.

Consider taking a dog for a Dog Day Out! You can take a dog out of the shelter for a 1-2 hour field trip and capture tons of pictures and videos to share! Dogs should only be taken to outdoor spaces. Please do not bring them to offices, private residences, restaurants, etc.

Crash’s Landing and Big Sid’s Sanctuary are devoted to taking at-risk stray cats off the streets of the greater Grand Rapids area, providing them with veterinary care, and housing them in our free-roaming facilities until dedicated, loving permanent homes can be found.
