To complete your application, you and your prospective spouse must schedule an in-person or virtual appointment with the Office of the City Clerk. For complete information on obtaining a Marriage License, visit the Marriage Bureau section of the City Clerk Web site.
There are two things needed in order to get married: a marriage license and a marriage ceremony. The marriage license is a form that can be completed online or in-person, and requires a city clerk to oversee the process.
If you have an unused marriage license which was issued in -person at one of the five borough offices of the City Clerk’s Office AND it expired BEFORE March 7, 2020, you must obtain a new marriage license through Project Cupid in order to use our virtual marriage ceremony service.

mail our original hard copy of the completed marriage license to your office? We are processing completed marriage licenses received by mail as quickly as possible. If a couple mails in their completed marriage license, marriage certificate will be sent to their them by U.S mail.
If they need to receive their marriage certificate quickly, they should scan and email a copy of the completed marriage license to VMLReturns@cityclerk.nyc.gov for processing. They should store the original completed marriage license in a place of safekeeping.
