Deeply immersed in animal conservation and welfare issues, Virginia co-founded Born Free in 1984 alongside her husband Bill and eldest son Will Travers OBE.

10 maj 2023 · One of wildlife’s greatest champions, Virginia McKenna OBE, has today been awarded her Damehood at Windsor Castle. The honour, conferred by The Prince of Wales, is in recognition of her work for Wild Animal Welfare and Compassionate Conservation.

Virginia McKenna, the star of 'Born Free', co-founded the Born Free Foundation with her husband Bill Travers in 1984. The Foundation works to protect wild animals from captivity and exploitation in zoos and circuses, and supports field conservation projects in Africa.
