Portrait of Vincent van Gogh is an 1887 chalk pastel on cardboard by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Toulouse-Lautrec had encountered Vincent van Gogh, eleven years his senior, when they were both taking lessons at the open studio (atelier libre) of Fernand Cormon in Paris from 1886 to 1887.
Van Gogh painted this self-portrait in the winter of 1887–88, when he had been in Paris for almost two years. It is clear from the work that he had studied the technique of the Pointillists and applied it in his own, original way.
He produced more than 2,000 artworks, consisting of around 900 paintings and 1,100 drawings and sketches. In 2013, Sunset at Montmajour became the first full-sized Van Gogh painting to be newly confirmed since 1928.
