Digital storytelling tools provide opportunities for primary learners to begin communicating their ideas by simply adding pictures and recording their narration to describe what they’ve drawn, providing an opportunity to practice retelling before they begin writing.
Students can use a combination of videos, pictures, text, narrative, music, and other sounds to share a narrative with the teacher and their classmates. The stories students share could be fiction, but digital storytelling also lends itself nicely for sharing a personal narrative and a memorable event in a student’s life.

This paper presents an overview of how digital storytelling has and continues to be used to support teaching and learning activities. In addition, recommendations and guidelines are presented for educators who would like to teach students to use digital storytelling as an educational endeavor.
