(I’d listened to the 2ce Sigs in a lot of positions over the years, using various methods, but at the end of the day it was the Vandersteen setup procedure that sounded best.) I’ve also set up the tilt with the washers, using the formula in the 5A manual.

The low end of the 5as is every bit as warm as the ARs, but the low end extends flat all the way down to 20 Hz, and they keep going a little bit past that, too. After saying all that, a properly maintained 5a w fresh batteries, a properly setup high pass and setup correctly in tge room will trash most $30 k speakers ...
20 sty 2021 · The "cheap" Vandersteen M5-HPA High Pass Mono Block Amplifier "for owners of Quatros or Model 7's which are not played loudly" are 300-Watts Into 4 Ohms. A Van Alstine Fet Valve 600R produces 300 watts per channel, their DVA 850 Mono Block Hybrid amp produces 850 watts are two affordable amps that come to mind.
I could live very happily with the 5A and AR gear but thats me.Then again same for the Maggies. You have to LISTEN to both. Go see John Ruttan [ No one is a better Vandy man then him IMO] in NJ and Lyric in NYC and have a listen. Me, for the price, the 5A and Maggies would be my choices.
