When the Toulouse native and current Barcelona resident Miss Van’s sultry female characters began to pop up on city center walls in the mid 1990s, they instantly possessed a timeless quality, as if women had always painted such graffiti in the streets.
These are the uneasy muses of Miss Van, the French-born street-artist-turned-fine-art-painter who has spent the last 30 years or so amid an evolving stream of these woman, watching them grow from innocent yet alluring, chubby doll babies into case-hardened warrior babes even a band of fur-bearing fox-snakes couldn’t faze.
Miss Van started wall-painting with brushes on the walls of Toulouse in the ’90s and quickly expanded her work throughout Europe (with Barcelona as her home city), influencing the feminine movement in European Urban Art.
