21 wrz 2022 · On Monday, Aug. 15, 2022, Valparaiso University announced its two new mascots: a golden retriever, named Beacon, and a chocolate labrador, named Blaze. These two colorful characters are the results of 500 days of brainstorming, deliberation, and refinement by an extensive group of University faculty, staff, and, most importantly, students.

The Valparaiso University primary and secondary signatures are the visual identity of the University. They come in several formats (horizontal, horizontal vertical, stacked), color spaces (CMYK, RGB, Pantone, HEX), and file types (.EPS, .PNG.) to fit many different applications.
Formerly named the Crusaders, the university dropped that name and associated mascot and logos in 2021, because of the "negative connotation and violence associated with the Crusader imagery", specifically its appropriation by hate groups such as the Ku Klux Klan.
23 wrz 2024 · A little over two years ago on Aug. 15, 2022, Valparaiso University announced that a golden retriever named Beacon and a chocolate labrador named Blaze would be the two new mascots to accompany the nickname change from ‘Crusaders’ to the now ‘Beacons.’
23 wrz 2021 · What follows next for Valparaiso University’s mascot is yet to be seen, but the change is not unprecedented. “Beacons directly connects to Valpo’s motto, ‘In Thy Light We See Light,’ and the many ways it represents and connects our University family,” Padilla wrote in the Aug. 10 announcement.
10 sie 2021 · Many of Valpo’s marks and logos, including its colors and the “Shield of Character,” will remain part of the University’s brand. The new nickname, new mascot and related imagery will be phased in during the 2021–2022 academic year.
