- Britain Can Make It
The Victoria and Albert Museum (abbreviated V&A) in London is the world's largest museum of applied arts, decorative arts and design, housing a permanent collection of over 2.8 million objects. [3] It was founded in 1852 and named after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
The paintings collection includes more than 2,000 paintings in oil, tempera, and fresco, from 15th century to the present day. The collection is largely European, with particular strength in 19th-century British art.

The Great Bed of Ware: Dating back to the 16th century, this enormous oak bed measures over 11 feet wide and could accommodate up to 15 people (V&A, 2021).

Early history. 1. When it was established in 1852 the Museum was called the Museum of Manufactures and was located at Marlborough House, a royal residence in Pall Mall, London. A year later, it became the Museum of Ornamental Art and in 1857 moved to its current site as the South Kensington Museum.
