Shooting Star was formed in suburban Kansas City by next-door neighbors and childhood friends Ron Verlin and Van McLain (born Van Allen McElvain on May 3, 1955, in Kansas City, Missouri; died March 2, 2018).
In 2019 when the only Mitski song I knew was Nobody, a friend of mine recommended Last Words of a Shooting Star, so I searched for it on YouTube and watched the music video. But now the video seems to have disappeared without a trace.
They warmed up for Molly Hatchet. Good show, the Kettle Drums used in their finale "Last Chance" were a great touch. Singer actually jumped off stage, ran out about half way through the crowd then up into empty side bleachers where the Kettle's were set and played that part. No recordings, they used the real thing.

Through the years, Shooting Star endured their share of industry challenges and member changes. There were even times it seemed that the band could not continue forward. But founding member Van McClain was the constant rock that kept the fire burning. Sadly, Van McLain passed away in March of 2018.
The band made a video for the song Touch Me Tonight which received extensive airplay on MTV and hit 51 on the Billboard Singles chart (the highest position Shooting Star ever received). IN 1990 a 6th album was released and set up tours with Bad English, Bryan Adams and 38 Special.
