Shooting Star was formed in suburban Kansas City by next-door neighbors and childhood friends Ron Verlin and Van McLain (born Van Allen McElvain on May 3, 1955, in Kansas City, Missouri; died March 2, 2018).
Saw them live. They warmed up for Molly Hatchet. Good show, the Kettle Drums used in their finale "Last Chance" were a great touch. Singer actually jumped off stage, ran out about half way through the crowd then up into empty side bleachers where the Kettle's were set and played that part.

Sadly, Van McLain passed away in March of 2018. The remaining members were determined to continue on to honor Van and keep his music alive. With the full support from Van's family SHOOTING STAR continues to shine today.
