30 lis 2009 · This study investigates engineering students’ use of mathematics through observations of two teams of students working on extensive design projects. The case studies presented in this chapter provide insights into situations when engineering students engage in modeling behavior and also explore ambiguity and precision in engineering design.
Applications of algebra and analysis having a broad appeal are featured, including topics dealing with ordinary differential equations, integral equations, applications of the contraction mapping principle, minimization of functionals, an example from optimal control, and estimation of random variables

Algebraic Geometry is useful in Computer-Aided Geometric Design. See for instance this paper: Algebraic Geometry for Computer-Aided Geometric Design , by Thomas W. Sederberg and Ronald N. Goldman, in IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications , 1986.
disciplinary backgrounds engage in mathematical and design thinking as they solve a design task. Students in engineering majors (n=17) and mathematics majors (n=13) were recruited to work independently on a design task. In this paper, we present analysis methods, data, and
The book targets advanced engineering students who will gain insight to applied design thinking approaches that will be invaluable in their progression towards a successful engineering career.
