The vast majority of the right of way is now in use as a rail trail, with the Connecticut portion known as The Air Line Trail, and the Massachusetts portion known as the Southern New England Trunkline Trail.
The tracks are intact, the trains use them now, the spurs to the three major ports are intact and in use. The problem is almost everything coming from JFK, and the major international trade ports of NY and NJ is coming by truck.
