For Regular Creative, a map has to have an "XP" flair on it for it to give you XP. I think EPIC removes XP from maps that are not gaining traction ("XP" flair goes away as well). Some old maps I used to play no longer give XP for this reason.
That's weird, maybe try to rejoin or it's the map itself that does not give the XP. Try another map. If not, try playing normal Fortnite modes such as Battle Royale and see if you can get normal XP instead of creative XP.

Because Creative XP is no longer a thing, you can only get it from published maps with the Accolades Device. At least that has been the case for me.
