If you’re at risk or currently have osteoporosis, speak with your provider about a bone density (or DXA) scan and possible treatments. After a bone density test, you’ll be given a number called a T-score. This score compares your bone density to that of a healthy young adult. Normal is zero.
Find low bone density before a fracture occurs. Confirm a diagnosis of osteoporosis if you have a fracture. Predict your chances of fracturing in the future. Determine your rate of bone loss or keep track of the effects of treatment if the test is conducted at intervals of a year or more.
1 sie 2023 · A bone density test is used to measure bone mineral content and density. It may be done using X-rays, or dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA or DXA). Or a special CT scan that uses computer software to determine bone density of the hip or spine.
A bone density test measures the strength and density of your bones as you approach menopause and, when the test is repeated sometime later, can help determine how quickly you are losing bone mass and density.
