Record £13.9 billion donated to charity last year. The UK Giving Report tells the story of charitable giving in 2023: although fewer people donated to charity compared to before the pandemic, some donors are giving larger amounts.
According to the European Foundation Centre, the UK has approximately 8,800 public-beneft foundations whose total expenditure is £2.1 billion. The following is a list of the top ten UK charities and trusts providing grants to NGOs in the UK and internationally.
KEY FINDINGS. Giving by family foundations reached £2.3bn in 2020–21, an increase of 11%. Giving by corporate foundations reached a new high of £239m in 2020–21, increasing by 17%. Family and personal foundations contributed 61% of giving by the Top 300, while corporate foundations contributed 6% in 2020–21.
