UCSHIP and UCLA have partnered with Academic Health Plans (AHP) to audit our health fee waiver applications. You can submit an online application through Academic Health Plans (AHP) Waiver System during a designated Waiver Period.
Waiving Coverage. To waive UC SHIP coverage, you must have other health insurance coverage that meets the university’s health insurance requirements, described in the waiver criteria below. You must submit a waiver application prior to the start of each new academic year to waive coverage that year.
You can waive UC SHIP coverage if you already have a health plan that meets the university’s health coverage requirements. Go to studenthealth.ucla.edu to learn how to waive enrollment in UC SHIP before the waiver deadline for your campus. Note: You must reapply to waive coverage each academic year.
BruinCare is a program that gives students who have waived UCSHIP prepaid access to certain services at The Ashe Center. By purchasing BruinCare during the waiver process, you eliminate the $25 visit fee, and more.
Undergraduates are automatically enrolled in the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP) unless they waive the coverage. The cost of coverage through UC SHIP will be included as part of your Student Services Fees. You’ll receive more information about UC SHIP with your first BruinBill.

Students who are already covered by a health insurance policy that meets university requirements policy may waive (opt out of) UCSHIP by completing the UC SHIP Waiver Process to avoid automatic enrollment.
