I think Renpy's better in all situations. Extremely easy to get a game running; you just write some super easy to read script, add some image and music commands, and run it. It's not in a graphical UI, but that doesn't mean it's hard.
Throwing this out there - I'm not familiar with TyranoBuilder so I do not know if you can easily change the resolution in it. While RenPy provides an easy way when you create the game to pick between two resolutions, you can simply edit the files and set the resolution to anything you want.
Now, I like all 3 for different applications, but for pure VNs I think Ren'Py is the best choice if you're willing to commit to learning it and how it works; but if you just want to build something really quickly with little customization, then Tyranobuilder could work for you.
20 lis 2017 · TLDR: VNM is a very expensive gamble if you're not sure. TB is a cheap one. RenPy is free. If you've never made a visual novel and want to try, I'd say mess with RenPy a bit, then decide how much you want to spend if you like it but want something "easier".

22 cze 2019 · But tyranobuilder = Japanese Dev. It kind of implies things. Like translation problems and visual novels with single choices. I haven't played a lot of Tyranobuilder games, but in general it just seems much less user-friendly than Ren'Py.
