The Twelve Tribes of Israel (Hebrew: שִׁבְטֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל , romanized: Šīḇṭēy Yīsrāʾēl, lit. 'Tribes of Israel') are, according to Hebrew scriptures, the descendants of the biblical patriarch Jacob (also known as Israel), who collectively form the Israelite nation.
