A hernia is caused by a weakness in the abdominal wall which allows the abdominal contents (mostly fat, but rarely intestines) to slip down in to the scrotal sac (commonly referred to as your “balls”).
19 wrz 2012 · Today I found out why doctors have men “turn their heads and cough” during a physical. Pretty much all guys have been there at some point or another. The doctor asks you to drop your drawers. They slap on their latex gloves, grab your junk, and ask you to turn your head and cough.
Doctors generally say “turn your head and cough” during a hernia exam. They are generally required to put their fingers near the top of the testicles on a male patient and instruct him to cough because if a hernia is present it can be felt bulging from the lower abdomen.
Arnold's nerve ear-cough reflex, syncopal cough, cough headache, opioids-associated cough, and cough-anal reflex are signs that could help diagnose underlying neurological conditions. Cough reflex testing is a quick, easy, and cheap test performed during the cranial nerve examination.
It's a hernia test. The doctor puts his fingers under your scrotum. Coughing causes you to tense the muscles there which will help your doctor detect the hernia. You turn your head so you aren't coughing on your doctor.
