Animals That Live in the Tundra. Polar bears, yaks, mountain goats, snowy owls, and arctic foxes are just a few of the unique animals found living in the tundra biome.
Migratory animals include mountain sheep (Ovis canadensis), ibex (Capra), chamois (Rupicapra), several wildcats, and many birds. Mountain goats (Oreamnos americanus) spend noticeably more time at higher elevations in winter. In contrast with Arctic tundra mammals, some alpine mammals hibernate during the winter.
Many tundra animals have developed unique adaptations to survive. Some animals, like caribou, rely on migration , moving to warmer areas when the tundra becomes too harsh. Others, like the polar bear, have blubber and insulating fur to protect them from the cold.
