You can do this by logging into your wireless router and turning off the 5.0ghz band. Click save. Restart your router, then set up your ring from scratch. Once setup has finished, your device no longer has to talk directly to the ring doorbell, so you can toggle the 5.0 GHz band back on.
That solves most problems. Another thing to try is a different phone or tablet for set up. I just spent another couple hours troubleshooting this blooming ring doorbell. I uninstalled app, reinstalled the app, rebooted wifi, tried 2 devices to connect and nothing.
