11 maj 2023 · If you need skilled care for more than 100 days, your doctor needs to get approval from TRICARE For Life. Starting on day 101, TRICARE For Life is the primary payer for skilled nursing care. You're responsible for the TRICARE deductible and cost-share.
Coverage: Medicare pays 100% for the first 20 days of a benefit period. For days 21 to 100, Medicare covers all costs except for the required Medicare copayment; TRICARE For Life covers the copayment. After day 100, TFL becomes the primary payer for covered skilled care. The patient must pay the TFL cost-share.
There is no day limit, as long as medical necessity continues. Coverage includes: a semi-private room, regular nursing services, meals including special diets, physical, occupational and speech therapy, medications furnished by the facility, and necessary medical supplies and appliances.
