The Tribe of Dan (Hebrew: דָּן, "Judge") was one of the twelve tribes of Israel, according to the Torah. According to the Hebrew Bible, the tribe initially settled in the hill lands bordering Judah and the Philistines but migrated north due to pressure of their enemies, settling at Laish (later known as Dan), near Mount Hermon. 31 lip 2023 · In Moses’ blessing, Dan’s tribe is called “a lion’s cub, springing out of Bashan” (Deuteronomy 33:22). Some believe the reference relates to Dan’s northern migration and capture of Laish. After Dan resettled to the north, the tribe became associated with idolatry (Judges 18:30–31; 2 Kings 10:29).
DAN IN WALES, IRELAND, SCOTLAND, AND NORTHERN ENGLAND. In Biblical Times the Tribe of Dan had been divided into three (or more) different sections. One section had been in the northern Galilee (Joshua 19; 42) and neighbored Gad. Later part of this section moved with other Israelites to Scythia.

The prince of the tribe was Ahiezer (Numbers 1:12). Among the spies Dan was represented by Ammiel the son of Gemalli (Numbers 13:12). Of the tribe of Dan was Oholiab (the King James Version "Aholiab") one of the wise-hearted artificers engaged in the construction of the tabernacle (Exodus 31:6).
Though the Bible is silent about Dan's individual exploits, it gives many details concerning the tribe of Dan, and different individuals within this tribe. Many prominent men, none moreso than Samson, originated from this tribe.
