According to a writer for the show, this led to Hasbro cutting down the original 5 episode season 4 into 3 episodes, simply because they didn't want to spend the money on it. From what I can gather on TF Wiki 2005, it's pretty much mostly due to slowing sales of the toys related to the show.

So G1 Transformers ends with The Rebirth mini-series, but in my research I keep finding a few instances of 30 episodes made by Johnson TV that I can’t find anything about anywhere other than the wiki. What’s the deal?
