The California branch of CANTER is small and specialized. We accept owner donated and surrendered off-the-track thoroughbred racehorses. With the guidance of our veterinary team we rehabilitate the injured horses and then retrain them for second careers as sporthorses or pleasure mounts.

For the past 30 years, we have fulfilled our promise to the public to maintain our thoroughbred herd, giving soft landings to at risk horses, rescuing horses from starvation and abuse while at the same time growing our capacity to help more and more horses.
Once a Thoroughbred only rescue, as of October 2015, Neigh Savers became an all breed rescue. Since its inception in 2007, Neigh Savers has improved the lives of over 700 horses. Our goal continues to be to prioritize the Thoroughbred hoping to have at least 50% TBs and the remainder other breeds.
Founded in 2012 by Denali Jordan, Humanity for Horses (HFH) is a California-based equine sanctuary. With approximately 105 Thoroughbreds in their care today, the organization will ultimately be able to take in up to 400 Thoroughbreds.
