Thomas D. Mangelsen (born January 6, 1946) is an American nature and wildlife photographer and conservationist. He is most famous for his photography of wildlife in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem , as he has lived inside the zone in Jackson, Wyoming , for over 40 years.
As you can imagine, Tom is grieving her loss and will be making a statement later to honor her life. Grizzly 399 was part of our family, and we will forever call her Queen of the Tetons.
Biography. Renowned American nature and wildlife photographer Thomas D. Mangelsen has traveled throughout the natural world for over 45 years observing and photographing Earth’s last great wild places. A Nebraska native, Mangelsen’s love of nature, his life outdoors and business success were heavily influenced by his father.
To be more blunt, it would be transforming her, in death, into a kind of trophy—the very thing 399’s millions of advocates wanted to prevent by opposing sport hunting bears for fun and the potential she would be targeted by an ego-driven cretin seeking bragging rights for taking the most famous living bear on Earth.
30 paź 2024 · Near midnight on October 22nd, the most famous grizzly bear that had ever lived, Grizzly 399, was struck by a vehicle and killed 25 miles south of Jackson Wyoming in the Snake River Canyon. She was almost 29 years old.
